Ph youth to initiate nationwide protest #WalkoutPh
“Rage
against the dying of the light, overthrow the fascist US-Duterte Regime.”
This
is what an University of the Philippines student, Mik Geriane, yells as he
initiates the movement known as #WalkoutPH, midnight of February 19.
Known
to be as a propaganda officer of the College Editors’ Guild of the Philippines
(CEGP), Malikhaing Pagsulat sa Filipino undergraduate Geriane, landed the very
first hashtag on a social media site called Twitter that moved college students
out of their classrooms and join simultaneous protests on the 23rd
day of the same month.
#WalkoutPH,
as it comes from the name itself, is an actual rally encouraging students of
various universities and colleges to step off of their rooms and make it to
another ‘part of their learning’, says Bonifacio Ilagan, martial law survivor.
Different
universities in the metro and provinces, both public and private, are taking
their steps on fulfilling the said event on their corresponding places – including University of the Philippines,
Polytechnic University of the Philippines, University of Sto. Tomas, De La
Salle University, Baguio City Students, and UP Mindanao among others.
The
hashtag soon became trending in the site reaching thousands of tweets at peak
number 6.
